We recently had the pleasure of visiting Woodford Primary School to deliver Bark Smart sessions to Years 1, 2 and 3, and what an amazing day it was.

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel incredibly welcome by the staff and teachers, and the enthusiasm from the pupils was clear straight away. The children were engaged, curious, and eager to learn, which made the sessions not only successful, but genuinely enjoyable for everyone involved.

Teaching Children Lifelong Skills

At Bark Smart, our mission is simple: to help children learn how to safely and respectfully interact with dogs.

During our sessions at Woodford Primary School, pupils learned key safety messages that they can carry with them for life, including:

  • How to approach a dog safely

  • The importance of personal space and boundaries

  • Understanding dog body language

  • Why we must never assume a dog wants to be touched

  • What to do if they feel unsure or unsafe around a dog

The children were brilliant throughout, and it was fantastic to see them growing in confidence as the day went on. These lessons are not only valuable for the children themselves, they also help protect dogs by reducing misunderstandings and preventable incidents.

Thank You to Woodford Primary School

A huge thank you goes to the staff and teachers at Woodford Primary School, who supported the sessions from start to finish. Their energy, organisation and care for the pupils was outstanding, and it was a real pleasure working alongside them.

It’s schools like Woodford Primary that make a difference by recognising how important dog safety education is for children.

Joined by Greater Manchester Police

We were also honoured to be joined by Greater Manchester Police, who helped support the sessions and engage with the pupils. Their involvement added an extra layer of excitement and importance to the day, and the children absolutely loved having them there.

It was wonderful to see everyone working together with the shared goal of keeping children and dogs safe.

Viva: The “Disney Dog” Steals the Show

Of course, no Bark Smart session would be complete without our Bark Smart dogs today the star of the show was Viva.

Viva was incredible throughout the day, and she quickly became a favourite among the pupils. She was even described as a “Disney dog” and we couldn’t agree more!

Her calm nature, friendly personality and gentle presence help children learn in a safe and positive way, and she played a huge part in making the day so special.

We Can’t Wait to Return

We left Woodford Primary School feeling proud, inspired and excited for the future.

The children were amazing, the staff were brilliant, and the overall atmosphere was one of learning, respect and positivity. We are already looking forward to returning to Woodford Primary School in the near future.

Until then…

Stay Bark Smart! 🐾💙
